Community Workshop on a Better Way Forward for Union Pier
We’ll briefly discuss the Union Pier project’s path through the city process, then continue the conversation on how we can improve the plan.

Through a series of events and special sessions led by the development team, we’ve heard the same information over and over about the current proposal. There must be a better way forward for redeveloping this critical site.
The developer’s intense, unprecedented building plan does not address fundamental issues Charleston is facing or offer meaningful community benefit to offset its impacts.
Instead, we see more of the same: buildings too tall and out-of-scale for historic Charleston, more tourists packed into brand new 7-story hotels just steps from the Cooper River, luxury rentals changing the character of our city, all surrounded by minimally required open space, according to the latest plans.
The event on Thursday is free and open to friends and neighbors, and the format will be relaxed as we gather ideas for a community-first vision for Union Pier that addresses resident needs, climate resilience, public space, and more.
This is not a developer-led or a city-sponsored event. We’re working with our nonprofit partners at the Coastal Conservation League and Historic Charleston Foundation to find a better way forward for Union Pier and we need your help.
