Cruise Ship Education Forum Co-Sponsored by the Preservation Society of Charleston on March 31, 2010

March 15, 2010 -

CRUISE WASTE IS IN BAD TASTE

More cruise ships are coming to Charleston, SC....67 here this year up from 33 last year….

Did you know that

Ships idle in our port, burning dirty bunker fuel, with pollution in one day equivalent to 12,000 cars?

Sewage, untreated graywater, trash, and incinerator ash can be dumped within 3 miles of our shore, with no monitoring?

If our city received per passenger fees like other port cities, we could have over $1.3 million to help defray infrastructure costs, like crowd and litter control, and wear-and-tear on the city’s resources?

What does this mean for our health, our resources, our city, and our quality of life?  What impact will there be on our historic built environment?

Come learn more about these issues from the foremost cruise experts on the continent, and a range of options available to minimize the negative impacts and ensure the best safeguards from cruise ships visiting our city.

Wednesday, March 31

6:00-8:00pm
