Author William McIntosh III will be signing copies of his book, Indians' Revenge, at the Preservation Society Book & Gift Shop on Saturday, May 1, 2010 from 1:00-3:00pm.
The Yemassee Indian War lasted from 1715 to 1728 and nearly wiped out the province of South Carolina. Although the war is called the Yemassee Indian War, virtually every tribe in the southeast was involved. Despite the length of the war, until the publication of this book, it was virtually forgotten. In this account, Bill McIntosh has brought to light the first complete, factual history of the war, interwoven with details about South Carolina's relations with the French in Louisiana and the Spanish in Florida.
Bill McIntosh is a graduate of Tulane University. He is a past president of the Preservation Society of Charleston and in 2004 was awarded the Governor's Award for Lifetime Preservation. The catalyst for this book was Bill McIntosh's ancestor, Thomas Hepworth, who died in 1728 and is buried in St. Philip's churchyard.
