A group of 32 individuals met on April 21, 1920 in the drawing room of a house on South Battery to discuss the dangers to the city's architecture and most importantly the future of the1803 Joseph Manigault House (350 Meeting Street). There, the Society for the Preservation of Old Dwellings was founded, and later renamed the Preservation Society of Charleston.
